- Be smart about make-up. Make-up can be the make or break ingredient in wedding pictures of the couple and wedding party. Too much is not a good thing. A little can help highlight features like eyes and lips, as well as smooth skin tone. Get a professional to help or to teach you so you’ll look your best.
- Angles help. A good photographer will try to angle your body so that your best profile or feature is shown and to downplay things that might be distorted by the photo. You’ll be in lots of snapshots too on your big day and these tips will help make sure you look good. Try to always stand with the bulk of your weight on one foot, this ads a nice shift to the hips and keeps you from looking stiff. Point the un-weighted foot slightly toward the camera. Don’t directly face your torso. Keep your arms slightly away from your body, this will let light through and keep you looking slimmer. Push your neck slightly forward to enhance your jawline.( Careful not too much! Practice with some snapshots at home).
- Bright and rich colors work. Some of the best wedding photos have bright dresses, ties, shirts, and flowers. When selecting your gowns think about colors that look great on everyone. Solids tend to photograph better than prints. Striped ties are an exception, they work well when paired with solid suits or tuxedos. If you are more into subtle colors that’s okay too, pale colors can lend to a very soft, romantic feel. Just plan on seeing less color in your images. You may want to as your photographer to use processing techniques that highlight the romantic softness of pinks, lavendars, gray, etc…
- Dark flowers disappear. Dark purple, blue and red flowers have a strange way of disappearing in photography. They recede into greenery and other dark backgrounds. Dark flowers make nice accents up close, just balance them with other brighter, lighter colors for the best effect in photos.
- Use real smiles. Don’t try too hard to smile. Forced smiles can look forced and fake. Just relax and think of all the wonderful people who’ve gathered to celebrate with you. Practicing smiling ahead of time in the mirror also helps or look at your favorite snapshots for examples of your best look.
- Tan lines gone wrong. Tan lines can jump out in pictures. Think about it as you get close to your wedding. Don’t forget to sunscreen your nose. Dark noses can be distracting in pictures. In many instances a little bit of tan is better than a lot. It’s best to look natural, not a share that unusually darker than your normal skin.
